Sights & Culture in Caldaro/Kaltern
Highlights in southern South Tyrol
The wine village of Caldaro and its surrounding area offer many attractions to visitors. Here you will find historical gems and cultural treasures such as the legendary Leuchtenburg Castle, the high medieval Hocheppan Castle with its frescoes dating from the 12th Century or the Romanesque frescoes of Kastelaz/Kastellaz above Termeno/Tramin.
In addition to visiting the castles, there are many other cultural attractions and museums to be admired, such as the South Tyrolean Wine Museum, the Lake Stage Performance event, the Messner Mountain Museum in Firmiano/Firmian, the Manincor winery, the Trudner Horn Nature Park and the Bletterbach gorge in Aldino/Aldein, as well as Ötzi, the famous glacier mummy housed in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano/Bozen.
The Peace Path brings you to the church ruins of St. Peter in Altenburg, probably the oldest church in Tyrol.
A truly special experience is a ride on the steepest and longest continuous funicular in Europe – the Mendelbahn!
